Bubba'n'Stix A500 25th Anniversary: Level 3 2020 DLC (A fanfiction/art by a fan). Part 1.
Level 5 DLC: The Sewer System of the Zoo
The second extract for the upcoming 2021* DLC for Bubba’n’Stix is out ! Just like with the first one which was released more than a year ago, it’s a new route for one of the vanilla levels. So, let’s not wait and go back to our beloved volcanish balloon factory !
*Yeah, I know it was supposed to be released in 2019.
The key passage here is just after the wave of earthquakes when Bubba reaches a lava fall and has to jump on rocks to reach the upper level.
Now, when Bubba pushes the button at the far left of the level to turn on the pipe that can suck him up, it also triggers the apparition of a few things back at the lava fall.
But he has to go back there first, and it’s easier said than done.
This passage is already annoying normally, doing it twice is a bit tough and requires patience in order not to waste health bars.
New things can now start. At the lava fall, a platform and a shut pipe have appeared:
Bubba is faced with a choice: the pipe or the cave.
The cave proves to be a bit dangerous.
And so Bubba takes the…
…”teleporting” pipe. It spits him a few meters further on the right.
In the cave on the left is a checkpoint alien. But there’s also a falling rock, a bat and burning fumes.
It’s hard.
Let’s pretend nothing happened.
Immediately after the save point, Bubba reaches the cave he earlier chose not to follow.
He then retraces his steps, it’s time to move forward in the new area.
Behind the pipe that blows dangerous hot smoke, lies a gulf that can be crossed easily thanks to a conveniently placed platform. A mysterious corridor awaits, closed by a heavy metal door.
Bubba most probably has to find a way to open the door. As the upper platform and its tempting button are unreachable, the only thing to do is drop down.
Surprisingly, everything goes fine.
Walking over the button on the right turns on the pipe, the problem is that as soon as Bubba moves away, it turns itself off.
On the left a giant crusher is hitting the floor hard.
It’s not that difficult to avoid the drops of lava and to wait a second until the crusher pauses and Bubba has time to go through.
However, the crusher’s rhythm will accelerate as soon as Bubba goes past it and our beloved redneck will now need to shut it down using the button on the inferior platform in order to go back. He’ll only have a few seconds before the machines restarts automatically though.
The following puzzle involves switching levers in order to activate or deactivate the pipes of the previous room.
You’ll want to deactivate the one on the left and activate the one on the right (in order to have lava drops press the button automatically). The left lever is the on/off command, the right lever selects the pipe.
Now, the problem here is that if the left lever is accessible by climbing the cliff with Stix’ help…
…the right one seems unreachable.
The solution takes the shape of a funny jumpscare. If Bubba hits the rock…
…or simply remains in front of it for about four seconds, this happens:
And it’s one health bar lost. Funnily enough, the rock’s roar is closer to the yapping of a small dog than to the one of a lion. Also, the “attack” only works once, Bubba won’t be surprised anymore by it… unless he’s got his back turned, that which can happen when planting Stix inside the cliff in order to reach the left lever again.
The rock then can be made to move, or will move on its own and used as a spring to reach the problematic lever.
Once the whole lever switching thing is done, Bubba can go back to the previous room…
…and get sucked in by the pipe to be expulsed in a balloon a few meters from there.
He then rises…
…and rises…
…until…
Bubba finally pushes the button…
… which doesn’t fail to open the heavy door.
Behind it there’s a computer that doesn’t seem to be much of a threat (and it won’t become one).
At the edge of the walkway Bubba drops down and goes left to find an extended rope.
The path is blocked by fumes. There’s a short lapse between their apparitions, maybe Bubba can go through.
He cannot. One health gone.
Aoutch ! Unfortunate landing on a puddle of lava.
And now a bat ! One life lost.
Let’s start again.
Stampede of the balloon elephant.
The button that the wild animal was guarding calls an elevator.
There’s an intriguing path on the right.
But Bubba needs to explore what’s left first, to avenge his own death by not dying again !
Thanks to extreme agility he dodges a falling stalagmite and a lava drop and manages to jump above a large lava puddle and to avoid an annoying bat.
Or not. He lost a second health bar already.
Another puddle of lava and a lava drop avoided successfully.
Bubba reaches the machine that he spotted earlier while he was falling…
…and turns off the steaming pipe.
Before switching on lamp number five. The easiest after seven really.
It’s then time to retrace his steps and try the funambulist rope again.
It leads to a switch that turns a green light on.
Of course, as Bubba goes back, a pipe drops some lava upon the rope that starts burning.
Unluckily, he loses balance, gets his toe burnt and falls…
…in the small puddle of lava again. Health bars are flying away.
Going right again, bat and lava drop included.
Now, it’s not really difficult to find a way to reach the mysterious passage that Bubba spotted earlier. Bubba sends the elevator back to the upper level…
…calls it again but runs to the cliff to drive Stix into the hole before the elevator arrives.
This allows him to use the elevator as a platform to reach the mysterious cave.
An earthquake starts and rocks threaten to fall and crush our man who only has one health bar left.
Suddenly, a curious little animal, intrigued by the noise and quakes, springs out of his hole. Unfortunately, his head is quite pointy and Bubba was just there. One life less.
Going back to the checkpoint.
Very carefully, Bubba goes past the balloon elephant, does the whole sending/recalling/jumping on the elevator/ trick and reaches the “secret” cave again.
The earthquake makes rocks fall from the upper wall of the cave, rocks that can be blocked thanks to Stix. The quakes drive spiky headed little creatures curious and they check outside of their holes what is happening after having uttered a small cry of surprise.
There’s seems to be an underground tunnel at the end of this underground tunnel.
